Network Solutions Registrar Review

leave a comment

Network Solutions may be the name that most of the older folks think of first when discussing domain name registration. The company itself was founded in 1979 as an engineering company. The Domain Name System (DNS) was established in 1984 and in 1993 Network Solutions wins a contract with the National Science Foundation to register domain names.

In 1997 Network Solutions went public. They were once acquired by SAIC. After going public VeriSign bought them for 20 Billion, and later they were acquired again by Najafi Companies and later by General Atlantic. Throughout their history they have been in the domain registration business since day one and won a J.D. Power and Associates Certified Call Center Program award three years in a row.

Network Solutions
Network Solutions manages over 7 million domains, 1.5 million e-mailboxes, and more than 350,000 Web sites for it’s customers. Their CEO, Tim Kelly, was once with Sprint/Nextel and previously president of Tickets.com. He now leads their 900+ employees.

Customer Service
Nothing speaks louder than a customer testimonial.

“They are a trusted brand name and the people are fantastic. I have worked with several online hosting companies and ecommerce platforms over my career, but I never felt satisfied until I started to work with Network Solutions. It is a breath of fresh air to know that you always have a contact a phone call away to talk about the products and services you use through Network Solutions.” Todd Wilson, www.babyfans.com

1&1′s parent company, United Internet, became one of the first web companies to go public. They provided internet services predominantly in Europe. In the late 90′s they added domain registration. They first provided email services and after the domains they moved into hosting as well.

1 & 1 Registrar
1and1_logo1&1 provides services to over 8 million customers. In total there have been over 10 million domains registered through them. The company is large, having over 3,500 employees and 250 developers. They focus on not just domain registration but also affordable web services.

Register has been around since the beginning of domain registration. Having been a registrar for over 10 years they have millions of domains under their management. At one time Register.com had gone public and was a publicly traded stock. However in the mid-90′s they decided to go private. They then won a customer service award as well as multiple other awards. They received an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Customer Service1and1_customer_service
They provide technical support for questions and product details, anything you need help with. As a customer you have unlimited access to 24-hour phone and e-mail technical support. You may not need it because they have a very intuitive user friendly interface to manage your domains and any other services.

Register.com Review

one comment

In 1999 Register.com was one of the first five registrars accredited by ICANN. This was a test of the registry system and they have been a registrar ever since. Initially offering .com, .net and .org domains they provide many more today.

GoDaddy Registrar Review

one comment

GoDaddy was founded in 1997. This makes Go Daddy one of the longest operating domain registrars around. It is the largest ICANN-accredited registrar.

Largest Registrargodaddy-domain-registrar
GoDaddy has over 30 million domains registered through them. The most recent study shows that is about 3 times the second largest registrar which has about 10 million domains. That makes Go Daddy three times larger than their second closest competitor, quite impressive for an industry and a company that is just over 10 years old.

Customers
A decent barometer for determining a companies abilities is to look at their customer base. GoDaddy has over 7 million customers. They provide 24/7 live customer service. It is always a good sign when two things occur, first they have a large customer base and two they are a public company. Public companies need to file constantly and have an incentive to assure they treat their customers fairly. This is just a general statement, does not mean that non-public companies do not treat their customers well but public ones are definitely incentivized to keep their record as spotless as possible. Take it from 7 million customers.

GoDaddy Corporate
Go Daddy has been ranked on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies as well as listed on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500. They have also won multiple awards.

Domain Manager
GoDaddy has an excellent domain manager to make updates to your domains. Chanding a DNS entry is quick and simple. They also provide all the services such as domain masking, redirection and more. Their ease of use also allows you to set up multiple forms of payment and auto-renew to assure you do not forget to renew your domains.

GoDaddy Domain Auction Review

one comment

If you cannot find what you are looking for when searching for a new domain, do not forget about resales. There are those that own a domain and wish to sell it. Some set a price they would like to obtain and others may allow their domain to be sold at auction to the highest bidder.

godaddy_auctions
Go Daddy Auctions
GoDaddy Auctions provide you with access to over 2 million domains. These are domains that you may believe are not available after searching for a new domain. However they will appear as owned when looking for a new registration but by checking the domain auctions you may obtain just what you are looking for.

Not Just an Auction
There are several options to obtaining a domain. While some are offered to the highest bidder in a typical auction scenario there are other options such as a buy now option at the price the owner specified, and an offer / counter offer option to negotiate with the owner. Once you make your offer it is sent through Go Daddy to the domain owner who can choose to accept or not.

Domain Monitoring Feature
Included with the domain account is a domain monitoring pack. Monitoring of 100 domains is included. This means that while you may see that a particular domain you are interested is already registered by someone and not for sale at an auction you can have it automatically monitored.

By monitoring the domain you will be notified if it is available. The domain does not have to be registered at GoDaddy. You can monitor any domain owned by anyone at any registrar (that’s a lot of any’s). You can monitor changes to any .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ or .US name. While not necessarily needed for the auctions, it is an excellent add on service.

After Sale Protection
Once a sale is made how does the domain transfer? Both the buyer and the seller are protected. You, as the buyer, receive the domain before the seller is paid. The seller of the domain is protected from credit card and payment fraud. This is accomplished by providing escrow.com escrow services.

Exclusive Offers
An account with GoDaddy has exclusive soon to expire domains. Go Daddy has over 30 million registered domains, therefore you have access to a large exclusive inventory.

Get an Account
An account is just $2.50 a year using this coupon code, that is 50% off the regular $5.00 price. Once you add an auction account to your cart you can use the coupon code AUCTION12 at checkout and enter it in the promotion box, click apply to obtain the discount. You can go to godaddy here to obtain an account.
